There is something comforting about something remaining unchanged, like that bridge in North Karana. Antennas and fins and a wing-like nature are apparently the Caldari motif. There is also a video about the redesign process and considerations as well. Change that and I am shooting the monument!) Never the Drake, which ranks right after the Cormorant with me for nostalgia. You can’t stop progress, and every ship ugly or not has its fans and they are all going to get a face list some day, so I have to take it in stride. It isn’t awful update like the Griffon change, but it is a departure from the essence of the old design, something that hits at a long held memory of the game. CCP has a video out about the upcoming change to the model. So it is with some trepidation that I see the Cormorant is up for a revision. I know it is all a matter of taste and perspective, but I have to call them how I see them. The old Griffin, as I will always remember it The Oneiros went from a light, asymmetrical feel to a ponderous bulk while the Griffon, once such a slender, graceful design, was turned into a flying space pig. I like the new Slasher/Claw models, but the old ones were still good, while the Dominix went from being a space potato to being a slightly squared off space potato.Īnd some of the changes were not improvements at all to my eye. Others I am not sure were worth the effort. (Yes, the Cormorant is asymmetrical too, that was ever the theme of the Caldari school of design until the Drake showed up, but it a somewhat understated way.) I think the Caldari Scorpion and Moa, both victims of the asymmetry gone wild school of ship design ended up much better for the effort. Over the years a lot of ships have been updated. ![]() You can run through screen shots in the Classic Graphics category on my other blog for a taste of what space was like way back when I started playing. Space has been transformed, nebulae are bright and colorful, stations have been updated, and asteroids no longer look like space potatoes. In stellaris it looks fine but you'll need to do some further editing and add lighting to make it look good in blender or as a image render or whatever you're using it for.Meanwhile, the graphics of the game around the Cormorant have changed drastically. blend file that I used to create the Leshak for Stellaris in the repo. It's in chinese but you'll get the general idea. However, because I needed the actual diffuse and normal maps to make the model in stellaris, I chose the second option of composing in my own using Photoshop. Now to make the texture files, there are some options you can choose, but all of them will require you to have a 3d modeling software, preferably blender or maya.Ĭheck out this thread for how people made things come together ![]() Remember to rename them accordingly and most importantly, all texture files are flipped so you must flip them vertically. You can either run the script to download all ship models and their corresponding textures, or you if you just need one single ship, open the file_types.txt file in the repo, find the textures for the ship you want and download them using the link in there. In the link you can scroll down a find an image detailing the many different texture components and how they are contained in each specific channel layer in either of the 3 different texture files (pmdg.dds, ar.dds, no.dds)įirst of all you'll need to download the texture files. ![]() Since a while ago, CCP has been using a new system for their textures ( ), it works great in-game to reduce size and enhance graphics, but makes a little harder for people to figure how it all comes together. I see, you're talking about normal maps, which is a type of bump map. There is no kind of error handling at all but it works and that's all matters Luckily I was able to download them from the server and convert them with gr2convert into. obj and kept crashing every time I tried to do so. stl files which doesn't contain uv maps and I found that TriExporter wasn't able to display or export models to. obj models using gr2convertĬontext: I wanted to use some EVE models to use as ships in a game called Stellaris but I found that repos like only contained. What it does: downloads assets from the server (currently for ships and their assets but you can provide your own resfileindex.txt from SharedCache and modify the script to download other stuff.) Also converts. Don't know if anyone would be interested in this but here's a probably badly written and definitely disgusting looking script to download EVE ships or other assets from the Eve Online server that I made during some of my free times.
